The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is warning citizens to think before they post, following a surge in social media threats and online incitement.

In a strong statement today, the Commissioner of Police condemned what he called a dangerous trend of individuals threatening each other and even public officials online.

The TTPS says such behaviour is illegal and may trigger action under the Emergency Powers Regulations, which allow Preventive Detention Orders for those who incite violence or threaten national safety.

Cyber investigators are already tracking offenders, and police say anyone posting threats or encouraging violence will be identified, located, and prosecuted.

Citizens are urged to share opinions responsibly—because, as the Commissioner warns, “your words today can have you in handcuffs tomorrow.”
