The Trinidad and Tobago Blind Welfare Association (TTBWA) has welcomed the Government’s move to digitize immigration processes.
However, TTBWA chief executive Kenneth Suratt urged authorities to ensure the new Arrival and Departure Card platform is fully accessible for persons who are blind or visually impaired.
Launching March 17, the platform will replace paper forms and require travellers to submit their immigration declarations online via www.travel.gov.tt.
Mr Suratt stressed that accessibility must be built in from the start, including compatibility with screen readers, refreshable braille displays, keyboard navigation, and high-contrast text.
The Association also highlighted the need for mobile accessibility and training for airport and seaport staff to assist travellers.
“Accessibility benefits everyone,” Suratt said, noting that inclusive digital services support independence, ease of use, and align with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
TTBWA confirmed it is ready to work with the Government to ensure the platform meets international accessibility standards.
