Despite recent criticism, Foreign Affairs Minister Sean Sobers says Trinidad and Tobago has no intention of leaving CARICOM.
He made the announcement at this evening’s post-Cabinet media briefing.
This comment came as he defended T&T’s position on the reappointment of CARICOM Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett at the recent CARICOM Heads of Government meeting.
He said the country’s concern is not with the individual, but with the reappointment process, as it was not listed as an agenda item during the conference, nor was it included on the preliminary agenda.
He added that the Government’s concerns are about CARICOM’s efficiency, effectiveness, and overall operational capacity, emphasising that the issue is about procedures and processes, not personalities.
