A Hurricane Watch is in effect for parts of Haiti, as Tropical Storm Melissa is expected to become a hurricane by early next week.
Jamaica is also under a Tropical Storm Watch, as the storm’s slow movement over the Caribbean is raising concerns for heavy rainfall and flooding, particularly in Haiti and Jamaica.
Currently located south of Hispaniola, Melissa has already begun bringing rain and gusty winds to the region.
As the storm moves slowly, it could impact Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas later next week.
While the US threat remains low, officials are urging residents in affected areas to stay informed.
