Trinidad and Tobago is closer to developing a thriving yachting industry, Trade, Investment and Tourism Minister Satyakama Maharaj announced at the opening of the T&T Chamber of Industry and Commerce Catalyst Conference on Wednesday.

The Minister said opening Trinidad’s west coast and the island of Tobago to yachts will leverage the country’s strategic position outside the hurricane belt, attracting high-value visitors.

“Sometimes they spend 40 to 50 thousand US dollars a month,” he noted, emphasizing the economic benefits compared with cruise ship visitors.

A new system, SailClear, will allow yachts to receive all necessary approvals before arrival, eliminating delays at ports.

Minister Maharaj also highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to streamline business operations, with 82 percent of licence applications now approved within 24 hours.

He said these measures aim to boost investment, create jobs, and strengthen Trinidad and Tobago’s position as a premier yachting destination in the Caribbean.
