South Africa thrashed the West Indies by nine wickets in the Super Eights at the T20 World Cup on Thursday.
West Indies recovered 83 for 7 to post 176 for 8 with Romario Shepherd hitting an unbeaten half-century.
However, Aiden Markram’s unbeaten 82 off 46 powered South Africa to victory with 23 balls to spare.
West Indies must now beat India on Sunday to make it to the semi-finals.
Skipper Shai Hope said that match will be a virtual quarterfinal.
“Everything will not be easy. The way we play our cricket, there must be a loss, aim was to get it out early. Next game will be a quarterfinal,” he said.
Hope said this team did not get enough runs to challenge South Africa.
“It was very important to get a big score and losing so many wicket in the powerplay cost us. We were 40-50 short,” he said.
“Must commend the guys in the bottom half for giving us a chance, never know things could have changed.”
