The Trinidad and Tobago Regiment’s 1st Engineer Battalion has successfully supported a complex multi-agency rescue deep in the Brasso Seco forests near the Sombasson Waterfall.
The operation began last Friday when hiker Fayyad Hosein was seriously injured during a challenging 19-pitch descent, about 17 kilometres inside Lalaja South Road.
With communication nearly impossible and terrain extremely unforgiving, responders from the Regiment and the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service worked around the clock for several days.
A team of five soldiers, including a female medic, reached and stabilised Hosine before guiding him out safely on Monday around 6 p.m.
Officials say the mission highlights the strength of the nation’s coordinated emergency response and the commitment of rescuers to preserving life.
