Quarry operators across Trinidad have shut down operations, following government failure to issue quarry processing licenses.
President of the Trinidad and Tobago Aggregate Producers Alliance, Nigel Tenia, warned that up to 100,000 jobs in the construction industry could be at risk.
He said the closure of 24 member sites is already disrupting the supply of sand and gravel, necessary for construction projects.
Guardian Media reported that Mr Tenia called for a three-year moratorium to allow operators to work while the system is fixed.
