Police have detained sixteen illegal immigrants during an early morning operation in the Maracas Bay Police District.
The exercise took place between 4 and 6:20 a.m. along Saddle Road in Santa Cruz, involving officers from the Maracas Bay Police Station, the San Juan Criminal Investigations Department, the North Eastern Division Task Force, and the Inter-Agency Task Force.
During the operation, a white Nissan NV350 panel van was intercepted and searched.
Inside, officers found nine adult males, one adult female, four male juveniles, and two female juveniles, along with alcohol, cheese, sausage, and clothing.
All sixteen individuals were taken into custody and transported to the San Juan Police Station for further enquiries.
The operation was led by Senior Superintendent Guy-Alleyne, Superintendent Birch, ASP Callender, and Inspector Ramsingh, coordinated by Sergeant Martin, and supervised by Corporal Daniel.
Police say the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement and border security in the area.
