The Opposition has criticized the Government’s 2026 Budget, describing it as a “Tax and Suffer Budget”, citing issues with over inflated revenues and its impact on the nation’s citizens.

A statement published on the party’s Facebook page said the budget will negatively affect the poor and middle class and vowed to hold the Government accountable for what it calls mismanagement and political deception.

It criticized the new landlord tax, electricity rate hikes, and an increase in National Insurance contributions, arguing these measures would burden the middle class and poor.

The PNM also condemned cuts to youth and education programs, and the lack of funding for promised housing projects.

Accusations of fiscal manipulation and over-inflated revenue projections were also raised, as well concerns about the Government’s failure to diversify the economy.
