The Government is facing sharp criticism from the Opposition People’s National Movement, after last night’s abrupt end to the 2026 Budget debate in the Senate.

According to the PNM, the debate collapsed just before 10 p.m., when Minister Kennedy Swaratsingh moved to close proceedings immediately after Opposition Senator Faris Al-Rawi’s contribution.

The party says several key ministers—including those responsible for Agriculture, Trade, Education, and even the Attorney General—failed to take the floor, leaving what it calls “major national and financial questions” unanswered.

The Opposition also took aim at the Government’s silence on Venezuela’s decision to cancel its Energy Framework Agreement with Trinidad and Tobago, warning that the lack of clarity only deepens public concern over the country’s energy future.
