Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has refuted claims by Venezuela that Trinidad and Tobago conspired with the US in the seizure of an oil tanker, calling them “false propaganda.”

According to a Guardian Media report, she said if Venezuela has an issue, they should address it with US President Donald Trump, as it was the US military that seized the vessel.

Addressing the issue of Venezuela’s threat to end natural gas deals, the Prime Minister emphasized that Trinidad and Tobago has ample reserves and is focused on reducing “bureaucratic barriers” to boost energy production.

Meanwhile, Energy Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal echoed the Prime Minister’s comments, adding that peaceful relations continue with Venezuela.

He addressed the issue in a Whatsapp voice note yesterday.

Dr Moonilal called Venezuela’s continued work with the US ” an act of hypocrisy”, adding that this country will continue its work other partners in the energy sector.

Dr Moonilal noted that the country continues to record increases in oil and gas production.
