The Prime Minister has ordered a full and urgent investigation into the death of 6-year-old Jasher Francois, at the San Fernando Teaching Hospital.

His parents, in a video posted online, stated that Jasher was taken to the hospital to treat a dry cough on Wednesday night, and was subsequently kept at the hospital.

They said he was alert, responsive, and showed no signs of serious illness, though he was kept on oxygen and a nebuliser.

Yesterday morning, the boy’s father said a nurse administered a medication through IV, and he became unresponsive and could not be revived despite emergency interventions.

In a statement today, the Minister of Health said he has taken immediate steps to initiate the investigation, to ensure that all relevant facts are gathered swiftly and transparently.

Earlier this morning, the SWRHAsaid a formal case review of the care and management of the now-deceased patient was underway

The SWRHA said it has taken note of the video, and empathizes with the parents with counselling and support services being made available to them.

It says a formal case review of the care and management of the now deceased patient is underway and the findings will be fully disclosed to the parents upon completion.
