Planning Minister Kennedy Swaratsingh has expressed strong support for Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s address at the 50th CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting in Basseterre, St Kitts.
In her speech, the Prime Minister called for regional unity, fair movement of CARICOM citizens, and a focus on practical measures to improve economic opportunities, security, and shared prosperity.
Minister Swarathsingh said she emphasized respect for CARICOM institutions, democratic processes, and the sovereignty of individual member states.
“The Prime Minister in her wisdom made the call to all the Heads of Government to build the Region together, through deeper economic collaboration, strategic planning and people-centered development. This aligns fully with Trinidad and Tobago’s national development agenda and our commitment as a government to advance regional integration in meaningful, measurable ways,” Dr Swarathsingh said.
Minister Swaratsingh highlighted the Prime Minister’s appeals for deeper collaboration on regional security, economic resilience, and education, including opportunities for students in Trinidad and Tobago, and the reopening of the Couva Children’s Hospital.
He noted that her message reinforces the government’s commitment to measurable regional integration, strategic planning, and people-centered development.
Minister Swaratsingh concluded by affirming Trinidad and Tobago’s readiness to work with CARICOM partners to safeguard sovereignty, strengthen security, and expand prosperity across the Caribbean.
