Nearly three years and eight months after the Paria diving tragedy, the families of the four deceased divers and the lone survivor have still not received any compensation.

Speaking to 103.1FM News, legal representative for two of the families, Saira Lakhan confirmed that no payments have been made.

Ms Lakhan said letters to the Attorney General and other bodies gone unanswered, and outlined the next course of action.

Ms Lakhan also gave a response of the families on hearing of reports that over $16.3 million was already paid to Paria and the State, for legal fees relating to the Commission of Inquiry.

103.1FM News contacted Energy Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal, who said he will investigate the matter before commenting, while former Energy Minister Stuart Young has not responded.

On April 3rd this year, former Mr Young had announced $1 million ex-gratia payments for each family and the lone survivor.
