The Anti-Rabies Unit has resumed night trapping in South-East and South-West Trinidad, to help control rabies and protect livestock.

The initiative got underway on March 9th in a bid to support early detection and risk management.

Rabies is primarily spread by vampire bats, which can infect animals through bites.

The Ministry of Agriculture is urging residents and farmers to cooperate with officers during the exercises, which will be conducted during the night hours, when vampire bats are most active.

The last trapping was done in 2023.

Any abnormal clinical signs, sudden deaths in livestock, or evidence of bat attacks should be reported immediately to the Anti-Rabies Unit at 693-1682 or to the nearest County Veterinary Office.
