Florida schools can now use corporal punishment, once parents allow it.
A new state law lets districts adopt policies permitting the practice, but families must first sign a consent form.
Last school year, corporal punishment was used over 500 times in 17 districts in Florida, which is one of just 14 states where it is still legal in public schools.
Supporters say the law gives parents more control, however certain groups claim it is outdated and harmful.
