The Movement for Social Justice has raised concerns about the potential for nepotism and favouritism in the Government’s National Recruitment Drive.

Speaking during a virtual media conference yesterday, MSJ leader David Abdulah called for clarity on the criteria used to select candidates from the drive, which attracted over 110,000 applications for 20,000 government jobs.

He questioned whether former workers from the disbanded CEPEP and URP programmes would be given priority and emphasized the need for transparency in the process, stressing that without clear guidelines, there’s a risk of unfair practices.

The recruitment drive, launched by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, aims to provide sustainable jobs, including low- and unskilled workers, with interviews expected to begin this week.
