In a continued effort to bring support directly to citizens, the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS), through the National Social Development Programme (NSDP), on Saturday, March 14, delivered grants to twelve (12) households in the Mayaro/Rio Claro area.

The assistance will benefit forty-seven (47) household members, with a combined value of $173,123.00.

Three (3) Disaster Relief Grants were awarded to assist seventeen (17) individuals affected by recent disasters, while nine (9) Home Repair Grants went to thirty (30) beneficiaries, helping families undertake essential home repairs.

Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, emphasized that the Ministry remains focused on ensuring families have safe and secure living conditions.

She stated, “The government is committed to strengthening programmes that uplift families, protect vulnerable citizens, and improve the quality of life for communities throughout Trinidad and Tobago. Our mission is to ensure that assistance reaches those who need it most.”

Minister Mohit also highlighted initiatives to modernize social support systems, including revisions to the Standard Means Test (SMT), a tool used to assess eligibility for social assistance. These reforms aim to make assessments fairer, more transparent, and reflective of today’s realities.

Through the NSDP, thousands of families across Trinidad and Tobago have benefited from critical support, receiving practical grants that restore safe, secure, and dignified living conditions.
