A new contingent of 230 Kenyan police arrived in Haiti yesterday, marking the first foreign deployment since the UN Security Council approved the expansion of the gang-fighting force.
According to Reuters, the force now totals 980 personnel, following the latest deployment, the first since February.
In late September, the UN approved turning the mission into a larger “Gang Suppression Force,” although the total still falls short of the hoped-for 2,500 personnel.
The expanded force aims to tackle rising gang violence in Haiti.
