Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services Vandana Mohit has called for the resignation of the board Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.
Speaking at a media conference on Sunday, Minister Mohit says the institution has racked up millions of dollars in liabilities due to financial mismanagement and governance failures.
“Today, I call for the immediate resignation of the current board of the Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago,” Minister Mohit said, “The circumstances that have unfolded under the stewardship of this Board are deeply troubling and cannot be ignored.”
Unpaid staff gratuities and NIS contributions are among the mounting bills, alongside reports of frivolous spending and other financial irregularities.
“You have the gratuity payments—eight million plus—staff health insurance being owed in the millions—1.5 plus,” Minister Mohit said. “This is just some of the outstanding expenses.”
