Minister Saddam Hosein says the distribution of residential land leases to former Caroni 1975 workers fulfils a long-standing government promise and addresses decades of delay.

At a distribution ceremony on Wednesday, he noted nearly 600 leases were issued in nine months, with thousands more residential and agricultural plots still to be distributed.

“There is still a lot more work to be done. Based on the numbers, we have about 3,000 more residential leases to distribute, and we have about 1,751 agricultural plots again to distribute,” Minister Hosein said.

He put the Estate Management Business Development Company (EMBDC) on alert that there is a lot more work to come.

Meanwhile, Couva South MP Barry Padarath added that the initiative restores hope, boosts economic activity, and signals renewed commitment to improving families’ quality of life.

“Former employees of Caroni 1975 Limited have not been dealt with in a most frontal manner. Therefore, this is the right direction and the right step. However, a lot more needs to be done,” he said.
