The government is striving to strike a balance between the interests of fireworks enthusiasts and those who are against them.
This is according to Minister of Land and Legal Affairs, Saddam Hosein, who said new legislation will modernize outdated regulations.
The Summary Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2025 is expected to be debated in Parliament today, aimed at regulating the use of fireworks by way of a permit system.
The legislation proposes amendments requiring individuals to apply for permits from the Commissioner of Police to discharge fireworks, except on public holidays and on December 31st.
