Culture Minister, Michelle Benjamin, has extended heartfelt condolences on the passing of Dr. Daphne Phillips — a distinguished scholar, public servant, and cultural trailblazer.
Dr. Phillips, a longtime UWI sociologist and former Government Senator and Minister, is being remembered for her major contributions to national policy.
Her work included legislation on domestic violence, gender affairs, and the establishment of a National Art Gallery and Museum.
Dr Phillips’ work spanned academia, public advocacy, and cultural development, tackling issues from social inequality to youth violence.
The ministry says the nation has lost a compassionate scholar and champion for social justice, and pledges to carry her legacy forward.
