Man in court for attempting to cash fake pension cheque

A man has been sent for psychiatric evaluation after appearing in court in connection with a fraudulent attempt to cash a pension cheque.

Gary Alvin Daniel, also known by the alias Steve Thompson, allegedly presented a forged cheque and fake ID card at a supermarket along the Eastern Main Road in Sangre Grande.

The staff initially accepted both, however a routine verification process subsequently proved them to be fake.

The suspect was detained and after confessing, was charged with:

  1. Uttering a Forged Valuable Security
  2. Forgery
  3. Uttering a Forged National Identification Card
  4. Attempt to Obtain Money by False Pretenses

Daniel, who has no fixed place of abode, appeared before Master Rihanna Hosein at North Court B.

She ordered him to undergo a psychiatric evaluation at the St. Ann’s Hospital, with the matter adjourned to February 5th 2026.
