Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles met with Venezuela’s Ambassador to T&T yesterday to discuss regional issues including energy cooperation, migration, and maritime security.
According to a statement from the PNM, Mrs. Beckles reaffirmed Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and maintaining the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.
She also filed a motion for debate in Parliament condemning the Prime Minister’s statements and calling on Government to reaffirm its commitment to Caricom and international law.
The meeting, held amid rising US-Venezuela tensions and the suspension of gas agreements with T&T, ended with both sides pledging continued friendship and peaceful engagement between the two nations.
