Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been officially presented with the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The presentation was made by Her Excellency Christine Kangaloo during a ceremony at President’s House.
In attendance were members of the Government as well as Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles-Robinson.
Speaking afterward, Mr Modi expressed heartfelt gratitude for the honour, describing it as a symbol of the deep and eternal friendship between the two countries.
He also received it on behalf of India, saying it was a matter of collective pride for his country and its people.
Mr Modi noted that the ties between both countries are rooted in a shared history and cultural heritage, and praised the care and devotion of the local East Indian community in keeping its ancestral traditions alive.
