Justice Boodoosingh was sworn in at President’s House earlier today.

The new Chief Justice said it was an honour to serve in the position and promised to perform the functions of the office to the best of his ability.

Acting President Wade Mark congratulated Justice Boodoosingh on his appointment to the position.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has extended congratulations and best wishes to new Chief Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh.

The Prime Minister said her administration is committed to working closely with the Judiciary to uphold justice, strengthen integrity, and deepen public thrust in our democratic institutions.

Earlier, Opposition Leader Penelope Beckles-Robinson wrote to acting President Wade Mark requesting a halt to appointing a new Chief Justice.

According to a Newsday report, Ms Beckles-Robinson suggested that Justice of Appeal Prakash Moosai be appointed as the Chief Justice.
