Acting President Delcy Rodríguez has described Venezuela’s First National Popular Consultation of 2026 as a historic success, saying the exercise recorded unprecedented levels of participation.

The consultation took place on Sunday across Venezuela and coincided with celebrations for International Women’s Day.

Speaking during a televised interview on state broadcaster Venezolana de Televisión, Rodríguez said turnout at voting centres across the country exceeded expectations.

“We have had historic participation in this first consultation of 2026. Venezuelans came out to select the projects of their preference for the human city and for the productive economy. We have broken participation records,” she said.

The consultation allowed citizens to vote on community-based development initiatives aimed at improving local infrastructure and economic opportunities.

Rodríguez thanked several institutions involved in organising the nationwide exercise, including the National Electoral Council of Venezuela for expanding voting centres and strengthening the electoral infrastructure.
