The union representing Air Canada’s flight attendants has reached an agreement with the airline, ending the strike that caused flight cancellations since late last week.
Air Canada flights are also set to resume later on Tuesday, following this development.
Via an online post, the union said there was a tentative agreement, but details have not yet been published.
Originally, Air Canada had offered a 38 per cent increase in total compensation for flight attendance over four years, but this was deemed insufficient.
They also sought pay for tasks such as boarding passengers, which are currently not part of the package, as they are only now paid when the plane is moving.
The strike, which began late last week, saw more than 10,000 staff walk off the job over pay and scheduling issues, leaving thousands of passengers stranded by widespread cancellations.
The union confirmed today that a tentative agreement has been reached, though details will only be released once members have had the chance to ratify it.
The breakthrough came just hours after government-appointed mediation talks got underway.
