Former Police Commissioner Gary Griffith is questioning claims by the Homeland Security Minister that a file linked to the Brent Thomas abduction matter is missing.

Mr Thomas was arrested and brought back to Trinidad aboard a Regional Security System plane in 2022.

Commenting on a Facebook post, Mr Griffith said mandatory ministerial approval is required for police officers to leave Trinidad and Tobago and use a RSS aircraft.

He argues that official correspondence must exist at the Ministry of Homeland Security.

“There must have been a paper-trail between the Office of the Commissioner of Police to the Minister of National Security, seeking approval for police officers to leave our territorial waters to take part in this abduction of Brent Thomas and (also) requesting the access for the use of the RSS aircraft,” Mr Griffith stated.

“And likewise, the Ministry of National Security in turn would have returned correspondence to the Commissioner giving approval, Without that approval, the Commissioner cannot and would not send police officers outside of our territorial waters without the approval of the Minister of National Security,” he added.
