Questions are being raised by a former Police Commissioner as to why 1,200 police body-worn cameras remain unused, despite being in the TTPS’ possession since 2021.
In a social media post this morning Gary Griffith accused the current Police Commissioner of having an “apparent fear and ignorance of technology”.
He also disputed claims related to cost, contracts, officer control, and equipment quality, and believes the Top Cop is becoming desperate in finding excuses not to use the cameras.
Mr Griffith said the cameras were previously used under strict accountability measures, noting that similar body cameras are standard across police services internationally.
