A Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for several Jamaican parishes as additional rainfall could lead to localised flooding and landslides, in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.
As of this morning, the tropical storm warning in effect for the island has been discontinued.
But rainfall from the storm could still affect Jamaica and although damaging winds are gradually subsiding, periods of strong winds may still affect sections of the island.
Melissa is currently over Cuba and is expected to remain a powerful hurricane when it moves across the southeastern Bahamas later today, and near to Bermuda tomorrow night.
The Airports Authority of Jamaica says following a detailed assessment, a phased reopening of the island’s international airports is anticipated.
The Norman Manley airport is expected to remain closed until tomorrow at 3pm.
There were reports of serious damage to the Sangster International Airport, particularly the departure area, so reopening of this facility be delayed there.
