Five suspects, including a minor, were arrested and a firearm, ammunition and quantities of drugs seized during weekend State of Emergency operations conducted by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
According to police, officers conducted coordinated exercises in the Central, North Central and Port of Spain Divisions between Saturday and Sunday.
During an operation in the Central Division between 7 pm and midnight on March 7, officers searched a bar in the Chaguanas district. The search resulted in the discovery of a Smith and Wesson pistol loaded with a magazine containing four rounds of ammunition. A 44-year-old Chaguanas man was arrested in connection with the find.
The exercise involved officers from the Chaguanas Criminal Investigations Department, the Home Invasion Task Force and the Central Division Task Force.
Meanwhile, in the North Central Division, officers conducted searches at two houses in the Tunapuna district between 1 pm and 4 pm on Sunday. Police discovered a magazine containing ten rounds of 5.56 ammunition and arrested four male suspects ranging in age from 16 to 23.
In a separate operation in the Port of Spain Division, officers from the Inter-Agency Task Force conducted an exercise around 11:30 am in the Laventille district.
With assistance from the Canine Branch, officers found 13 packages containing approximately seven kilogrammes of cannabis in the Jackson Hill area.
Police say investigations into all three incidents are ongoing as State of Emergency operations continue across the country.
