The Summary Offences Amendment Bill, 2025, aimed at regulating the use of fireworks, has been passed in the Lower House.
The Opposition support helped secure 38 votes in favour.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said the legislation delivers long-promised protections and clearer rules for the public.
The Prime Minister also elaborated why it became necessary.
Meanwhile, Opposition members said the legislation strikes an important balance between public safety and celebration.
The Bill requires permits for most fireworks use, creates restricted zones near hospitals, airports, farms, and animal shelters, and gives police stronger enforcement powers, including fixed-penalty tickets.
