A former U.S. high school teacher has been sentenced to one year and one day in US federal prison for purchasing and supplying firearms to a Trinidad-based transnational criminal organization.
On June 20th 2025, 47-year-old Shannon Nicole Samlalsingh pleaded guilty to buying seven guns and falsely claiming on federal firearms forms that they were for her personal use.
The US Attorney General’s Office says she instead gave the weapons to a criminal organization, which then smuggled them into Trinidad.
The charges stem from a bust in April 2022, when authorities in Trinidad intercepted a shipment containing some of the firearms, ammunition and gun parts, hidden inside punching bags.
The case was investigated by U.S. federal agencies, with assistance from the TTPS Transnational Organized Crime Unit and Special Investigations Unit.
