Trinidad and Tobago’s environment continues to face mounting pressure, according to the 2024 Assessment of the State of the Environment released by the Environmental Management Authority.

The report tracks 108 indicators across pollution control, natural asset management, climate change and green economy initiatives.

This year, wastewater treatment fell by one percent, and air quality stations recorded several days above safe pollution limits, especially in Toco and San Fernando.

Solid waste entering landfills increased in Trinidad, though recycling also rose.

The report also highlighted rising coastal erosion, more forest fires, and continued impacts from climate change, including higher temperatures.

However, the EMA notes progress in renewable-energy projects, improved desalination supply, and environmental initiatives across government, civil society and the private sector.
