The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has reported the arrest of eight individuals during a coordinated anti-crime exercise conducted early Friday morning, March 13.

Dubbed Operation Beacon, the exercise was carried out between 12:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. across the Port of Spain and Central Divisions.

Officers successfully seized 28 rounds of 9mm ammunition, two firearm components—a pistol grip and magazine holder—and 160 grams of cannabis.

The operation targeted residential areas within the Besson Street Police District, including Duncan Street, as well as Oasis Gardens in Chaguanas, Central Division.

A total of 22 homes were searched, and 35 field interviews were conducted.

The exercise, officially referred to as Operation Steady Guard, was spearheaded by Senior Superintendent Thom, Superintendent Baird, ASP Cadette, and Inspector Durga, and supervised by Sergeants Guerra, Sookhoo, and St. Bernard, alongside Corporals Harrypersad, Keshwar, and Lashley.

In a statement, the TTPS reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations aimed at removing illegal firearms, ammunition, and narcotics from communities while maintaining a strong presence to ensure public safety.
