Opposition Senator Vishnu Dhanpaul has predicted the 2026 Budget would derail quickly and will have to be recalibrated by early next year.
Speaking in the Senate earlier today, Mr Dhanpaul said the Budget because of what it contains and what it does not.
“This Budget will collapse shortly under the weight of dubious assumptions and extremely creative accounting,” Mr Dhanpaul said.
“The oil and gas prices assumption are unrealistic. We must remember we are dealing with two exogenous factors here that we have no control over,” he added.
“We are price takers. We have no control over the price of oil and the price of gas. These assumptions and prices are some of the main risks to the Budget.”
Earlier today, the Opposition said the 2026 Budget was a “Tax-and-Suffer Budget.”
They expressed concerns over inflated revenues and its impact on the nation’s citizens.
The Opposition in a social media post said the budget will negatively affect the poor and middle class.
It vowed to hold the Government accountable for what it calls mismanagement and political deception.
