Today, August 10th, CWI will convene a two-day summit in Trinidad to tackle West Indies cricket’s performance challenges and implement structural reforms at all levels of the game.
High-profile attendees will include Sir Clive Lloyd, Sir Vivian Richards, Dr Desmond Haynes, and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, alongside current senior players, head coach Daren Sammy, and key administrators.
It adds that outcomes from this event will be implemented immediately, with progress updates to be issued as CWI rolls out strategic short and long-term reforms to close the elite-level performance gap.
It comes after recent woeful showings, which saw the Windies whitewashed by Australia in a 3-match Test series and a 5-match T20I series.
In the final Test against the Aussies, they recorded the 2nd lowest Test score ever, with 27.
The Windies also lost a recent T20I series to Pakistan 2-1, and are already 1-0 down in a ODI series against the same team.
The emergency meeting of the Cricket Strategy & Officiating Committee will be held at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad.
According to CWI, the first day will focus on “High Performance Strategy and Structural Reform”.
Wide-ranging panel discussions will examine current team performance challenges and identify immediate improvement strategies.
On day two, the focus will shift to “Player-Centered High-Performance Solutions” with direct input from current senior players and coaching staff about performance gaps and team ambitions.
Head Coach Daren Sammy will also lead a coaching staff feedback session to address the team’s brand of cricket as well as any immediate difficulties, while players will be able to speak candidly about their experiences.
A press briefing will be held following the conclusion of the final day of talks on August 11th.
