Chief Secretary Farley Augustine has confirmed that commercial sailing on the sea-bridge vessel, the Blue Wave Harmony, is set to begin on Monday.
The vessel arrived in Trinidad and Tobago on January 22, 10 days after the Cabo Star was withdrawn from service.
However, the Blue Wave Harmony was damaged during sea trials, delaying its entry into commercial passenger service.
Mr Augustine pointed out a heavy reliance on imported goods from Trinidad and urged investment to reduce the dependence on imports.
“We have to work on warehousing. We have to work on factories, and what we produce because it cannot be that our permanent solution is to have a boat that works all the time. That cannot be the solution. That cannot be how we achieve food security,” the Chief Secretary said.
