Anil Bheem will posthumously receive the Hummingbird Gold Medal for his outstanding lifetime achievements in Arts and Culture.
A cultural icon, entertainer, producer and radio announcer, Anil Bheem was one of the country’s most recorded artistes. His sudden passing in 2023 shocked the nation and left a significant void in the local music and media landscape.
Also receiving the Hummingbird Gold Medal is Chutney icon Drupatee Ramgoonai-Persad, as well as the late Garfield Blackman aka ‘Ras Shorty I’.
The nation’s top honor, The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, is being given to three persons this year. They include Mr. Hochoy Charles (posthumously), Professor Selwyn Cudjoe and Professor Kenneth Ramchand.
The awards are being presented this evening (Republic Day 2025) at Queen’s Hall.
