Khadijah Ameen has commended Kamla Persad-Bissessar for what she described as a historic diplomatic engagement with Donald Trump during the Prime Minister’s recent visit to the United States.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Minister of Rural Development and Local Government said the meeting represents the first time in more than three decades that a Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago has been invited to meet with a sitting US President.
She described the engagement as a significant milestone in relations between the two countries.
Ameen said discussions between the leaders have the potential to unlock new opportunities for investment, increased revenue and job creation, which could support national economic growth.
She added that stronger ties with the United States could also benefit communities across Trinidad and Tobago by encouraging infrastructural development, improving local government services and stimulating local economies that support families and small businesses.
