Ravi Ratiram, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, met with rice growers at the Caroni rice lands on Sunday to hear concerns affecting the sector.
He toured the fields, listed to the farmers’ concerns and held discussion on the challenges confronting the sector.
Farmers highlighted the need for reliable irrigation water.
The minister has pledged a follow-up meeting later this week with the Water and Sewerage Authority and ministry engineers to develop solutions.
He also consulted crop farmers from Bejucal and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening support for the nation’s food-producing communities.
The farmers outlined the operational difficulties affecting their production.
