A total of 220 workers have been hired for a three-month period, under the new Upkeep of Public Spaces Programme, which was launched nationwide yesterday.

Newsday reported this was confirmed by Local Government Minister Khadijah Ameen.

Ms Ameen emphasized that the program is not a replacement for CEPEP, highlighting a key difference is the offering of decent wages.

According to the Cabinet note, daily salaries range from $242 for maintenance workers to $352 for regional coordinators.

Each team will consist of a supervisor, a checker, and ten workers, at a daily cost of $1,408, totaling $193,440 over the 13-week period.

The program also includes additional costs for regional coordinators.
