While a deceased red howler monkey in Trinidad has tested positive for Yellow Fever, the Health Ministry assures that no human cases have been reported.
Officials say primates like red howler monkeys can act as early indicators of the virus in the environment, signaling the need for heightened vigilance.
The Ministry has intensified mosquito control measures and is urging the public to eliminate breeding sites, use insect repellent, wear protective clothing, and avoid contact with sick or dead animals.
It adds that vaccination remains the most effective protection, particularly for those in forested areas or travelling to regions where Yellow Fever is present.
