West Indies Under-19s ended their ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup campaign with a valiant 22-run loss to defending champions Australia on Wednesday, narrowly missing out on a semi-final spot after a spirited tournament showing.
Chasing Australia’s 314 for seven, the young Men in Maroon fought bravely, finishing on 292 for nine, with half-centuries from Zachary Carter and captain Joshua Dorne leading the charge.
Carter was again aggressive at the top, striking one of the tournament’s fastest fifties, while Dorne provided composure in the middle order.
Australia, unbeaten, advanced to the semi-finals, powered by a century from captain Oliver Peake.
West Indies finished level on four points with Afghanistan and Sri Lanka but exited on net run rate.
The campaign featured standout moments, including Carter’s century against South Africa and Shaquan Belle’s tournament-best 6/40.
Despite elimination, the team’s performances highlighted promise, resilience and encouraging signs for the future of West Indies cricket.
