WASA is currently sourcing additional water trucks to operate in Tobago in the wake of vandalism at WASA Tobago water infrastructure sites.

Four major water supply facilities in Tobago were vandalized over the weekend, causing the loss of approximately 2.1 million gallons of water per day.

Several communities were affected and Tobago’s truck-borne water supply came into focus.

Only three water trucks currently operate in the island and WASA CEO Dian Maharaj confirmed earlier this week that more are on the way.

“We are actually sourcing further trucks from Tobago so we can mitigate against this in a faster manner. If we have to get these trucks procured from Trinidad to come to Tobago, it will take some time,” he said.

On Tuesday, Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath confirmed that full supply was restored and nine persons—including a WASA worker—were arrested in connection with the act of vandalism.
