“Vibe coding’ has been named the Collins Word of the Year for 2025.
The term refers to using artificial intelligence to turn natural language into computer code, making programming accessible without traditional coding.
Collins describes it as ‘programming by vibes, not variables.’
The shortlist also includes ‘broligarchy,’ a term for a small group of wealthy men who exert political influence, ‘coolcation’ for a work-related vacation, ‘biohacking,’ altering your body to improve health, and ‘aura farming,’ creating a distinct and charismatic persona.
