Venezuela’s interim president Delcy Rodríguez says the country will work with the United States to develop its mining sector.
Rodríguez made the announcement after meeting U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum at the presidential palace in Caracas.
Officials say Venezuela is preparing reforms to attract foreign investment in mining, similar to recent changes in its oil sector.
The move comes as Washington and Caracas seek closer economic cooperation following political changes earlier this year.
Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world and is also rich in gold, diamonds, critical minerals and rare earth minerals.
